blackbyrd has shared a new album, titled Shoegaze for Black Kids. The eclectic, genre-bending 9-track record sees him tackling new ground and succeeding in doing so. He takes his music down a new path from his prior output, which focused more on lyrical hip-hop, by infusing shoegaze and indie influences into hip-hop tracks.
The engaging Shoegaze for Black Kids opens with "White Noise", which sets the tone for the record effectively. Lacing its soundscape with expansive synth work that recalls shoegaze and dream pop, while bringing in strong elements of hip-hop particularly in the vocals, "White Noise" can be described as a truly diverse track. He even presents a sample-based take on shoegaze with "Insomniac", a truly original joint that is refreshing in its sound, with powerful lyricism accompanying it. "LOVE/ LOST" includes elements of cloud rap and alt-rock while creating powerful undertones with booming 808s and electrifying synth walls.
