Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter Christina Ward releases her newest single, “Darkstar,” off her forthcoming EP Neon, expected to drop October 11, 2024, via Bad Catt Records & Mint 400 Records. After releasing a series of singles since 2020, as well as an EP called Shapeshifter from earlier this year.

Influenced by a variety of genres from folk, late-60s, 70s, and 80’s era rock, and indie pop, Ward shows her musical talents through seamlessly blending varied styles between her inspirations that range from Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and Emmylou Harris, which can be heard through the roots of her songwriting and production style.

“The song is partly about my life as a kid, growing up with a schizophrenic mother, and how it’s affected me in my adult life and my own mental health.”
— Christina Ward

Led with psychedelic rock elements with a nostalgic yet haunting style of production, “Darkstar” explores the complications and depths of Ward’s emotions, which she lyricizes through the melody of the song. Despite having these conflicting feelings, she showcases how music has been an outlet for her to cathartically express her struggles.
