Quiet! Hushhh Is on the Scene!

Hushhh, the emerging shoegaze quartet, just released their debut EP titled Summer Medication, and it's a thriller that refuses to be ignored. The EP, skillfully helmed by producer Shibby Poole (guitars, vocals for Yautja), showcases a perfect blend of 90s angst and raw energy.

Immediately capturing our attention with the distinctive punch of a Mapex Tomahawk snare, the opening track and lead single “In My Head” starts the EP off on a high, and it only gets higher.

Singer Zach Allen’s distinctive vocal style — whether or not intentional — is reminiscent of emo inflections, adding a layer of emotional depth and distress. Unlike many shoegaze records, he deliberately opts for a more dynamic vocal range, steering clear of the often-whispery vocals associated with the genre. This intentional choice adds a unique flavor to "Summer Medication," making it stand out in the increasingly crowded shoegaze scene.

Hushhh's appeal doesn't stop there — sludgy and high-powered guitars (Realize, Gleaming Light) create a powerful backdrop, while the bass guitar inhabits empty spaces with carefully constructed fills. The result is a well-rounded EP that captures the essence of modern shoegaze while pushing boundaries and embracing a more expansive palette. With upcoming shows in Nashville at The Cowan on January 11 and Arcane Workshop on February 8, attendees are in for a live experience that promises to be as electrifying as "Summer Medication" itself. Hushhh is a name to watch in the shoegaze scene, and their debut EP sets a high bar for what's to come.
