Jared McCain and Aimee Carty: The Most Unexpected Crossover of 2024

A couple of months ago, Aimee Carty blew up on TikTok with her song “2 days into college.” Recording live versions of the song while in her dorm room, the catchy vocal melody combined with incredible songwriting struck a note with millions of people on TikTok.

Two days ago, completely out of the blue, well-known Duke University college basketball player and popular TikToker, Jared McCain, posted a video of himself singing Carty’s song in the lockeroom after a game. Immediately, the TikTok started going viral as the crossover was quite unexpected. Overnight, other basketball fans started making highlight montages to the song which has continued to push the song to an even larger audience.

Aimee’s sound has now been used by over 2.6k videos — and a lot of them are basketball related. While the basketball community is an unexpected audience for “2 days into college,” which is about Aimee’s start to college-life, exploring her feelings for a boy named Colin and falling behind in her classes, it is incredible to see an entire community rally behind a song like this. With comments spanning from “this song makes me so happy” to”someone make a remix so we can get sturdy,” Jared McCain has definitely made some new fans for Aimee Carty.
