Joseph Carney & IAMTHELIVING share new collaborative release “The Reverse Music Video”
Born and raised in the UK but working out of Vancouver, Canada, artists Joseph Carney and IAMTHELIVING share an interestingly similar origin story, which likely contributes to the natural chemistry they display on their latest offering “The Reverse Music Video.” A unique, conceptual release, “The Reverse Music Video” was crafted through an idiosyncratic process, in which, Carney first filmed IAMTHELIVING’s loose vocal improvisations and built a story on the fly, then constructed a song by combining multitudes of takes, resulting in a song & music video unlike any other- one where the video came first, and then the music second.
A prime example of when visuals and audio simply mesh together effortlessly, IAMTHELIVING’s atmospheric, laid-back alternative R&B sound and Joseph Carney’s crisp, warm shots and sleek editing work well to complement each other. Conveying a refreshing, focused feel, “The Reverse Music Video” finds the two artists each contributing an eye for detail and outside-the-box creativity that makes the release go beyond just a song or music video. In an age where a lot of music videos fall into similar patterns, “The Reverse Music Video” blazes its own trail with its cerebral concept and thoughtful execution.
Joseph Carney, now based in New York, is an acclaimed and prolific filmmaker who has released two short films funded by highly selective and sought after Canada Council of the Arts grants. IAMTHELIVING is a Juno-nominated recording artist who recently released the anticipated EP JNGL with fellow Vancouver artist Teon Gibbs.
