Netflix’s “Entergalactic” by Kid Cudi
On September 30th, Netflix debuted Entergalactic which is an adult animation film that encapsulates the psychedelically beautiful mind of Scott Mescudi AKA, Kid Cudi. This technicolor film surrounds the main character, Jabari who is voiced by Kid Cudi and carries the strong themes of new beginnings, young love, and art as Jabari navigates his way throughout New York City as a young talented comic book author who Kid Cudi fans will recognize as the beloved Mr. Rager. Jabari falls in love with his beautiful next door neighbor, Meadow, voiced by Jessica Williams. He is also constantly with his two best friends, Jimmy (Timothee Chalamet) and Ky (Ty Dolla $ign) who provide a humorous aspect to the film. Throughout the movie, the audience will also notice many tributes to the late Virgil Abloh which stems from the great friendship that he and Kid Cudi shared. There is also no coincidence that the release of the film happens to be on Virgil’s birthday.
If the ambient aesthetic of the film wasn’t enough, the soundtrack will most definitely do it for you as Kid Cudi includes his 8th studio album produced by Brooklyn Native, Dot Da Genius in the music score. This album titled Entergalactic is a 14 track project that provides features from hip hop legends such as Andre 3000, 2 Chainz, Ty Dolla $ign, and more! In a recent tweet, Cudi explains the dynamic of the album by saying, “this is a new fusion of mediums. Expanding the mind one piece of art at a time” and you will truly get a glimpse of his artistic mind when taking a dive into the film and the album.
