Nkosi Bourne shares focused visual for “Drowning”

Like most artists, Nkosi Bourne struggles with complex questions. Questions about his morals, his career, and plaguing him most, questions about what he has to sacrifice to be an artist. On “Drowning", his new single accompanied by a visual, Bourne concludes that he must move forward and trust in himself, no matter the answer to his questions.

Over a slick and percussive beat, Bourne flows with unique intonations and humorous bars as he checks his emails, boils water, and plays with his dog. It’s playful, yet down to earth and seemingly humbling for Nkosi. He’s eager to let the audience know that his “face tells the truth” and that he’s tired of the hustling, the working, and the persevering. Seamlessly, he transitions to discussing problems that lead to his distrust in people and convinces himself that he’s “got it” as he walks towards the park and takes the train with his headphones on. His face is full of contemplation, and uncertainty about the choices he’s made to lead him to this point.

In reflection, Bourne laments the fact that because of his career he has “no friends.” He of course knows that he’s full of hustle, and is “in it till the end… always moving” but is unable to answer whether that’ll make him happy, stating that this feeling is just like “drowning.” In the end of the visual, Bourne leaves the park and goes back to his loft, seemingly ready to repeat a new day of contemplation and persevere through the mundanity of the struggling artist.
