The Big Easy Show Reflection On “Explanations vs Reality”

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, indie rock band The Big Easy releases their reflective yet vibrant new single, “Explanations vs Reality” from his upcoming album, (It’s No Secret) The Truth As Bad As The View set to release on August 2nd via Trash Casual Records.

Led by frontman Stephen Berthomieux, The Big Easy consists of a rotating cast of musicians around Berthomieux since its genesis in northern New Jersey and has followed him to his current home of Brooklyn, New York. On production duties, they enlisted mixing engineer and New Jersey scene legend Erik Kase Romero.

Their newest song begins with a stripped-back and lax intro that transitions to indie punk elements as the song progresses; its unorthodox nature unravels with a nontraditional song structure; one can still an infectious rhythm with catchy riffs and emotive melodies. Regarding the lyrics, the single explores the fears that come with the anxiety of ruining new relationships and the difficulties of maintaining and nurturing connections with others.

As he prepares to share It’s No Secret with the world, Berthomieux boldly asserts his identity whilst baring previously buried parts of his soul. In his own words, “It’s No Secret is kind of like a journal… a place where I can express the things that I haven’t been able to say out loud.”
