An Interview with CloutKidd

Dami: What was your first introduction to music?

CloutKidd: Honestly, my first introduction to music was probably about 9 years ago when me and my cousin started rapping on beats we’d find. And whenever we rapped, it just flowed and it was fun. Then around 2018, I started taking it serious and started doing remixes to known songs and then actual tracks of my own, but I’ve always loved music and all forms of music.

Dami: What led to you starting to take music seriously?

CloutKidd: Like I said before, I always loved it and always found it fun, and I took it in as a hobby and really wanted to get serious with it. And from there, I just went headstrong into doing it.

Dami: What’s your creative process like?

CloutKidd: I mostly write and I dabble in freestyling from time to time, and there’s even times when I do freestyle, I’d write it down to get it fluent. In a lot of my songs, I say a lot of the stuff that’s in my head. A lot of the time I reference things from movies, TV, sports and all types of other things like that.

Dami: How much would you say you grew as an artist since you started making music seriously?

CloutKidd: I can’t even lie; from what peers, friends, family and etc have told me and from what I’ve seen myself, I’d say I’ve grown heavily since I started making music and there’s no ceiling, there’s still more growth to be done.

Dami: How would you describe your current sound?

CloutKidd: I’d say my current sound consists of everything as funny as it sounds. I like to call myself a hybrid cause there’s no limit with me when it comes to my sound. I could be rapping or singing on a trap style beat, then going to boom bap beats, sad beats and the list goes on. Versatility is one of my keys.

Dami: You also dropped a new single recently. Can you tell us more about it and what led to it.

CloutKidd: So the single I dropped back on December 30th is named after one of my current favorite baseball players, Shohei Ohtani, and it’s a jersey club style track. The single itself is supposed to be a preview for my upcoming project and the project is gonna consist of most likely 10-11 tracks.

Dami: Can you tell us more the upcoming project?

CloutKidd: Circling back to before about versatility, that’s what the project is really gonna be. There’s something for everyone: trap is there, sadness is there, sexy drill/jersey club is there, boom bap is there, and it all intertwines together. It’s mostly sounds people have yet to hear from me.

Dami: What do you hope to accomplish this 2025?

CloutKidd: I hope to receive more eyes on my music and to continue growing.

Dami: What will you say has been the most stressful part of being an artist?

CloutKidd: Honestly, I think the most stressful part of being an artist is really perfecting the craft in each song. Nothing’s necessarily perfect but you always wanna have it to where it fits the mold.

Dami: And how do you deal with this feeling?

CloutKidd: I really just push through it, and it’s a good feeling when the finished product comes together.
