An Interview with Sunshine Glows
Dami: What inspired you to start making music?
Sunshine Glows: I started making music due to the fact I wanted to relate to others. My first single was “We Need You Interlude” after George Floyd’s killing. I was upset so I used that to help me create.
Dami: What’s your creative process like?
Sunshine Glows: I don’t really have one lol. I hear something or something inspires me to write a lyric, or sing a melody and then once I get it to something I like, I try to find the beat and once I practice the song and get the lyrics right, I record.
Dami: When making music, is there like a general thing you grab inspiration from or it just varies?
Sunshine Glows: It varies, I don’t just do one thing or pick one thing for inspiration.
Dami: What things do you pick for inspiration?
Sunshine Glows: I would say anything to be honest. Anything can help me write a song or concept. Movies; I would say documentaries and musicals. Documentaries help me learn and realize the people I idolize are humans and they just work very hard.
Dami: Who are your biggest inspirations?
Sunshine Glows: My mom. I love how she keeps going when things get rough. Beyoncé. I love what she stands for and how she performs and is free. J Cole. I love his versatility and how he inspires me to get out my hometown and has his college degree and his bars.
Dami: What was your first introduction to music?
Sunshine Glows: My mom in the car or in the house. I was always surrounded by music. When I’m upset, my mom sings to calm me down. Then in the car or the radio, we had Kidz Bop but rare occasions did we use it lol.
Dami: You just dropped a single titled “Let Me”. Can you tell us more about it?
Sunshine Glows: I wrote “Let Me” almost two years ago. “Let Me” is about telling someone ‘I’m there for you and I want to be more than what the relationship is currently and want to grow’. It gives early 2000s vibes played in a black kissing movie scene lol.
Dami: What was the creative process for this single like?
Sunshine Glows: I rewrote “Let Me” about three times. The second time, I found the beat and on BeatStars and just kept practicing it over and over.
Dami: What 3 words would you use to describe the single?
Sunshine Glows: Chill, sexy, fun.
Dami: Does the single mark the beginning of you releasing more singles/projects?
Sunshine Glows: Well yes. I want this project to bounce off more singles coming up in the future and maybe another EP.
Dami: How would you describe your sound?
Sunshine Glows: Real in the sense of I will say exactly how I feel in my music and won’t say something catchy just to make a hit or a viral song.
Dami: Any visuals on the way?
Sunshine Glows: Maybe, I can’t confirm nor deny.
Dami: What do you hope to achieve this year?
Sunshine Glows: Regarding music, I hope to do more performance work. I also want to go out more and go for more networking events. I also want to do more interviews.
Dami: How is it balancing school and music?
Sunshine Glows: Can I curse lol, its hard asf. Most of my projects are put out in the summer for a reason due to the school year. I am just trying to survive doing YouTube which I need to get better at. I feel like when I’m good at school, I’m bad at music or YouTube and vice-versa.
Dami: How do you plan on doing both then?
Sunshine Glows: I want to let my music pay for my recreation center for kids while I’m in school for social work. I plan on doing them both while letting the people I meet in college help create supporters, and a team, and a bigger audience.
Dami: Where do you see yourself and your music in 5 years?
Sunshine Glows: I see myself with couple of awards known at least in the South. I should’ve gone to a BET awards show and go on one or two tours.
