Morgan Gold releases engaging debut album ‘MIDAS’

Chicago artist Morgan Gold has shared her debut album ‘MIDAS’. The album’s release follows up engaging, vibrant lead singles like “Back Up” and “Comeout” that foreshadowed the project and built well-deserved hype. An atmospheric, sultry set of 13 tracks that are immersive and sharply written, ‘MIDAS’ was recorded at Chicago’s 2Queen Studios, and was produced and engineered by Gold’s collaborator and fiancé 730Skylar.

Album opener “I’m With You” sets the tone for the record with its rich, glowing sound. Featuring infectious, bouncy percussion and driving bass underscoring her silky, feather-like vocals, “I’m With You” makes for an emotive listen while providing much replay value. This track transitions smoothly into “No Introductions”, which takes on a spacier sound with electrifying synths drifting in a dream-like fashion atop a rich, lively rhythm section.

“Babygirl” showcases Gold’s diversity as a songwriter, picking up the pace with vital drums melding with airy synths to make for a brisk and refreshing listen. While “Outta Sight” feels more nocturnal, conjuring imagery of a night-time cityscape with raw percussion and passionate, sultry vocals from Gold. “Forgiveness” is elegant and cathartic, with dreamy, warm synths that set the tone for Gold to deliver lyrics full of potent introspection. The album closes out on a high note with “Home”, a sentimental offering that pairs atmospheric, uplifting keys with trap-influenced percussion to create a solid foundation for Gold’s vocals. She delivers an excellent vocal performances to close out the record, with melodies that are light and flexible and yet feel powerful and gripping.

The latest from Chicago’s Morgan Gold, ‘MIDAS’ delivers a heartfelt set of 13 tracks that draw the listener further and further into the project’s spacey, emotive soundscapes. Of the album, Gold says “sometimes, artists like me who are still on the rise are advised to steer clear of albums. The thing is, through all of these EP’s and experimentations, I’ve been waiting for that specific “album” sound. Once we made “Back Up”, we knew that we had achieved that ‘larger than life’ sound we were looking for. Keeping the ethereal spirit alive and well in music is our goal, and we’re proud to represent that with the album.”
