Mon Rovîa Is On a Mission To Reimagine Folk

Afro-Appalachian singer Mon Rovîa is one of the newest faces in folk, one who arrives with something fresh to offer the now popular genre. Originally from Liberia, and now residing in Tennessee, Mon Rovîa draws on personal history in his music, which echoes the likes of Bon Iver and Andrew Montana but taps into older roots influences. His most recent EPs titled Act 1 and Act 2 demonstrate his commitment to storytelling and poetry, a dedication that inherently pays respects to the origins of the folk genre. Themes of peace, unity, and love ring throughout his discography, and to a TikTok audience of over 400,000, he makes known the message he wants to convey in his songwriting: “Love your fellow neighbor.”
